Sand on Canvas, Nepal Lhakpa Paper and Watercolor Paper

The series Santa María celebrates both the history and the land of the island of Cuba. Each artwork, born from an alchemy of art and geology, is shaped with sand from the beaches of Cayo de Santa María. These creations, enriched with fossils and remnants, whisper buried secrets and reveal a unique texture, thus weaving an intimate connection with the era of colonization.

The artist, in a quest for material and memory, employs various mediums such as Nepal Lhakpa paper, watercolor paper, and canvas. "Inspired by Christopher Columbus's arrival on the island of Cuba aboard the ships La Niña, La Pinta, and La Santa María, » these works capture the essence and grandeur of this historic encounter. They evoke the discovery, conquest, and mystery of the initial moments shared between two worlds.
