“ELSEWHERE” brings together a group of Los Angeles–based artists who have collaborated with or been inspired by Yann Perreau. Each artist was invited to reflect on the notion of “elsewhere,” understood as a physical, mental, or emotional space, drawing from quotations by Milan Kundera and André Breton. This theme extends the approach initiated by Yann with the project space Ici est Ailleurs, founded in 2011 at the Pacific Design Center, which sought to foster dialogue between artists beyond geographical boundaries. After ten years of travel, ELSEWHERE marks Yann Perreau’s first exhibition back in Los Angeles. The works on view explore dreamlike landscapes, the desire for escape, metaphysics, ecology, and the enigma of the invisible, revealing the tension between the visible and the invisible that runs through modern and contemporary art. The performance GATE by Franco-Cuban choreographer and visual artist Yacnoy Abreu Dutour invites viewers into an experience of transformation and inner displacement at the heart of Show Gallery in Hollywood.
