Estocada
Bastarda
/2018
Taking on the political challenge for the first time, the artist embarks on a creation of unprecedented scale. Invited by the Areysha Dance Company in Paris, he delves into reflection on a contemporary theme. With "Estocada Bastarda," he explores the themes of freedom and conditioning under the Cuban communist regime, thus pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. This emblematic work unequivocally denounces the deprivation of freedomand the control of ideas. A helmet is used symbolically to illustrate this captivity. Inspired by the struggles for the independence of the "mambises," the artist revisits this story in the evocative setting of a fencing school, thus offering a poignant reflection on emigration and the quest for freedom.
