Acrylic and Charcoal on Board Paper

The discovery of coal awakens in the wake of reading the book "Biography of a Maroon", published in 1966 by the famous Cuban anthropologist Miguel Barnet. Esteban Montejo was born into slavery, escaped to the mountains, andparticipated in the Cuban War of Independence. Cimarrón is a series of drawings in various formats that blends charcoal and acrylic. These works illustrate revolt and resilience, while also serving as a rallying point to advocate for freedom, movement, and change.

The artist frees themselves through their creative process in Paintformance, a poignant artistic expression that gave birth to two of their works titled "The Bridge". This collective Paintformance took place in Paris in 2021.
