Akokán
/2024
During their « Solo exhibition » in Hollywood, the artist delivered a performance of rare intensity, immersed in a trance where the body became the instrument of deep spirituality. "Akokán", a Yoruba term meaning "from the heart," came to life in this space, with each work bearing the mark of pure, almost sacred intent. The dominant colors of black and red in this series symbolize Elegguá, the artist's guardian angel in the Yoruba religion, the master of paths and destinies.
The atmosphere was saturated with a captivating scent, a blend of Cuban cigar, rum, and that indescribable yet unmistakable aroma that emanates from the trance itself, filling the air with palpable energy. This performance was not just an artistic demonstration, but a true ritual, a spiritual offering where every gesture, every shade of color, told a story of faith, communion, and transcendence.
Beyond the canvases and movement, "Akokán" emerged as a total sensory immersion, an experience where both the senses and the spirit were summoned to grasp the depth of an ancestral tradition, revisiting the mysteries of Cuban Santeria with a power that was both captivating and timeless.

I was born
Wrapped in my ancestor’s garb
I strode into life
Proud and confident
Assured, in my skinAlong the way
The cloak no longer fit
I laid it down
Shed my skin
Cradled it back to its kinInto the world, I went in search
Seduced by the calls
Heeded its demands
Opened many doors
Met other wanderers
Some found their way inOutside, I searched far and wide
Until I looked, inside
There it was
The red red heart
I held it close, this treasure
Be it found or givenMe and the red red heart
Its beating was my Breath
Its breath was my Joy
My laughter rang
Only me and the red red heart
I felt as oneIn time
The red red heart
I bore its weight
I woke from my delirium
Me and the red red heart
Alas, we’re two, not oneI pushed the red red heart
Out into the world
We left our mark
Drew red red lines
In love and life
We’ve lost and we’ve wonThe time has come
The time to part
I let go
And found within
My own red red heart.
